#2.11 – “Christmas Party Sex Trap” – Mindy plans an office Christmas party for the entire building, so she can spend more time with Cliff (guest star Glenn Howerton). However, things don’t go Mindy’s way when Brendan Deslaurier’s date (guest star Maria Menounos) steals Mindy’s thunder by performing a seductive “Santa Baby” dance for the party guests.
If you, like this reporter, are thankful this holiday season for The Mindy Project and the comedy gold it delivers each week, the following is for you. And if for some reason you aren’t tuning into Fox’s rom-com-drenched sitcom, well… for shame (and you should read on as well).
Mindy found its funny footing by the end of its first season, but its sophomore run has taken the laughs to another level — something co-star and writer Ike Barinholtz attributes to good ol’ fashioned timing.
“Honestly, I think for all shows, it just take a little time,” he tells TVLine. “When I watch Season 1Seinfeld or the early Simpsons — or even early 30 Rock — they’re very different from the second season. It takes a little while to establish characters and their views, what they want and need… It’s just being given the opportunity to grow a little bit.”
The permanent additions of a pair of scene-stealers, Barinholtz says, helped greatly. “Picking up[Adam] Pally and Xosha [Roquemore] was big for us; it gave us two more big comedic voices on the show.”
Clueless no more, Dan Hedaya is bringing some fatherly love to The Mindy Project.
The veteran actor (Clueless, Family Ties) is making his way to the Fox comedy this season as Danny’s MIA deadbeat dad, Vulture reports.
Little is known about the installment other than that his character is named Alan Castellano and he lives in Joshua Tree — a fact that brings Danny and Mindy to the California desert town.
As TVLine previously reported, this same installment — penned by Kaling and recent Emmy winner Tracy Wigfield — “really advances [Danny and Mindy's] story romantically.” So… squee!
Question: I’m really enjoying the second season of The Mindy Project. I have been wondering if we might ever see BFF Gwen (as played by Anna Camp) again? —Ally
Ausiello: No plans at the moment, but I don’t want you to go away empty-handed so here’s some scoop on Anna Gunn’s upcoming guest stint. “I play a very upscale doctor who tries to poach Mindy,” the Breaking Bad actress reveals to TVLine. “It was a lot of fun.”

Joanna Garcia Swisher is traveling from Neverland to The City That Never Sleeps, with a plum role on Fox’s The Mindy Project.
TVLine has learned exclusively that the actress will guest-star on the sophomore comedy asthe sister of new series regular Adam Pally‘s Dr. Peter Prentice. Sources say the visit could potentially spill over into a second episode.
Swisher — whose previous TV credits include Reba, Privileged and Gossip Girl – most recently guested on two episodes of Once Upon a Time, with a third appearance as the mermaid Ariel still to come.
